Itzhak Perlman, violin: This month, Itzhak Perlman embarks on a five-city West Coast Tour, bringing his popular klezmer show "In the Fiddler's House" to San Francisco, his autobiographical multimedia show “An Evening with Itzhak Perlman” to Dallas and Costa Mesa, and recitals with pianist Rohan De Silva to Los Angeles and Portland.
Gemma New, conductor: On January 6 and 7, Gemma New makes her subscription debut leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program featuring Stravinsky, Copland and Mozart. On January 20 and 21, she conducts the Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona, collaborating with cellist Jean Guihen Queyras in the premiere of composer Alissa Firsova’s Die Windsbraut. From February 1 to 3, New leads the Atlanta Symphony in Salina Fisher’s Rainphase, Adam Schoenberg’s Losing Earth and Holst’s The Planets.
James Gaffigan, conductor: In his inaugural season as Music Director of Komische Oper Berlin, James Gaffigan leads a production of Eugene Onegin on January 13 and 21, followed by a Barrie Kosky production of The Golden Cockerel from January 28 through March 20. The New York Timeshighlights Kosky's The Golden Cockerel on its list of "Opera and Classical Music to Experience in Europe This Winter," describing Komische Oper Berlin's earlier productions with Gaffigan as "inventive and gripping."
Cristian Măcelaru, conductor: Cristian Măcelaru's album release of Brahms' Piano Concertos with pianist Simon Trpčeski and WDR Symphony Orchestra on Linn Records has received rave reviews. Currently in his fourth season as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France, Măcelaru leads programs from January 17 to 20 and February 10 in Paris. He returns to the States to conduct the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on February 2 and 3.
Seong-Jin Cho, piano: On January 11, 12, 13, and 29, Seong-Jin Cho will perform Ravel’s Concerto for Left Hand with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Music Director Andris Nelsons. From January 18-20, he will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the San Francisco Symphony, led by Dalia Stasevska, and on January 25-27, he will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the National Symphony Orchestra led by Giandrea Nosea.
Curtis Stewart, violin: PR client Curtis Stewart performs with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra on January 19 and 20, led by conductor Eric Jacobsen in a program including Curtis Stewart, Andrew Roitstein and Hamilton Berry’s 3 Selections from Negro Melodies for Violin and String Orchestra.
Jessica Meyer, conductor: On January 20 and 21, the Rochester Museum and Science Center presents an eclipse-inspired world premiere by PR client Jessica Meyer, titled In the Path of Totality.
Samantha Hankey, mezzo-soprano: On January 28, PR client Samantha Hankey will return to Opernhaus Zürich as Dorabella in Kirill Serebrennikov’s production of Così fan Tutte.
Reginald Smith, Jr., baritone: PR client Reginald Smith, Jr. performs as Emile Griffith in Terence Blanchard’s Champion at Lyric Opera of Chicago from January 27 to February 11.
Third Coast Percussion, ensemble: On January 14, PR client Third Coast Percussion makes its Puerto Rico debut at Pro Arte Musical alongside special guests Juan Horie (cello), Zachary Good, and Katherine Jimoh (clarinets). On January 24, they perform at the Illinois Educators Conference in Peoria. On January 30, they premiere their Metamorphosis program at the University of North Texas, featuring choreography from Lil Buck and Jon Boogz’s Movement Is Art. They bring the same program to London’s Barbican and De Dolean in The Netherlands in February.
Yarn/Wire, ensemble: PR client Yarn/Wire performs in the world premiere of Eric Wubbels’ Encouragements at the Eclat Festival alongside Siddhii Devii Lagrutta (vocals), Gunnar Brandt-Sigurdsson (vocals and electronics) and Christoph Ogiermann (vocals, piano, violin).
