Primo Founder Charlotte Lee serves on Sphinx Competition jury
Our Founder Charlotte Lee is in Detroit this week to serve on the jury of the 2020 Sphinx Competition and to attend the SphinxConnect Conference!
Presented by the Sphinx Organization, a non-profit organization whose mission is to address the underrepresentation of musicians of color in the industry, the Sphinx Competition is a national competition held annually to offer young Black and Latina classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with and receive mentorship from established professional musicians. Prizes range from $3,000 to the top $50,000 Robert Frederick Smith Prize.
The Competition jury, which includes Charlotte Lee, consists of violinists Pamela Frank and Bella Hristova, violists Beverly Kane Baker and Lena Fankhauser, cellist Melissa Kraut and conductor Tito Muñoz.
Taking place simultaneously with the Competition is the 2020 SphinxConnect Conference. This is the Sphinx Organization’s annual conference where artists and leaders from the field convene together annually to discuss the issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and more. The 2020 Conference is being attended by 900 participants in the field and keynotes speakers include Michael Abels and Joseph Conyers.
