James Gaffigan will lead Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” and Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” in the Spring of 2022 at The Metropolitan Opera. He made his Met debut conducting Puccini’s “La Boheme” in 2018 and is currently the Music Director of Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. This season he will also lead the Netherlands Radio in Ligeti’s “Le Grand Macabre”, Deutsche Oper Berlin in “Don Carlos”, Opéra national de Paris in “Manon”, Valencia’s Les Arts in “Wozzeck”, and Santa Fe Opera in “Tristan und Isolde”.

The cast of “Eugene Onegin” includes Ailyn Pérez as Tatiana, the naïve young girl who grows into a sophisticated beauty in Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous opera of unrequited love. Baritone Igor Golovatenko returns on the heels of an impressive 2019 Met debut in The Queen of Spades to sing the title role of the urbane nobleman who rejects Tatiana, much to his later dismay. Star tenor and audience favorite Piotr Beczała is the hot-headed Lenski, Varduhi Abrahamyan performs as Olga, and Ain Anger as Prince Gremin.

Its production dates are March 25, 29, April 2, 7, 10 and 14.

The cast of “Le Nozze di Figaro” includes bass-baritone Gerald Finley in the role of the philandering Count and soprano Federica Lombardi as the dignified Countess. The wily maid Susanna is sung by soprano Aida Garifullina, and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn plays the title role of the foolhardy Figaro. Mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke performs as Cherubino, the young page on the cusp of manhood.

Its production dates are April 2, 6, 9, 13 and 16.
