What inspired you to take the leap to run your own company, Primo Artists, in 2015?
I was very blessed to have three important mentors – Edna Landau, Elizabeth Sobol and Charlie Hamlen – during my 17 years at IMG Artists. After they left the company, I wanted to offer my artists a more focused, nimble approach in maximizing opportunities and visibility for them.
What elements in your relationship with artists are most important to you?
I am in constant contact with my artists and find that the close nature of each relationship allows me to listen better and to truly understand them. Our relationships are based on mutual trust and confidence in each other’s abilities. This means there are no reservations, hesitations or doubt, so we can plow ahead and fulfill our dreams together!
IAMA is increasingly looking to create learning opportunities for junior staff in artist management companies. If you could give advice to yourself when you first started at IMG, what would it be?
There are many subtleties in what we do that I’ve learned to understand over time. We work in a world of greys rather than black-and-white. One needs to embrace navigating through lack of clarity and oftentimes sensitive and uncomfortable scenarios. There is a lot said in silent pauses that we need to be able to hear. This type of introspection isn’t what we’re necessarily used to, especially in today’s fast-paced world.
How do you enjoy spending your spare time?
Family, fitness, food and relaxing in the sun.
