In December, Itzhak Perlman performed his klezmer show “In the Fiddler’s House” for a sold-out Chicago Symphony Center on December 4 and was then joined by luminaries Emanuel Ax, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and the Juilliard String Quartet in their “Itzhak Perlman & Friends” tour to UMS in Ann Arbor, Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto and Carnegie Hall. Following a 5-date sold-out Westcoast tour in January, Perlman embarked on a tour to Arizona and Texas at Mesa Arts Center on February 19, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts on February 21, Long Center on February 23 and Houston Symphony’s Jones Hall on February 26.
On February 3, Beatrice Rana released her Warner Classics album Clara & Robert Schumann: Piano Concertos with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. That same week, she made her National Symphony Orchestra debut performing Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto under the baton of James Gaffigan on February 2, 3 and 4. Rana made her Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut performing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini with Lahav Shani on February 9, 10 and 11.
Seong-Jin Cho recently played recitals at Los Angeles’s Disney Concert Hall, Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, Cal Performances, Celebrity Series of Boston, Soka Performing Arts Center and Philharmonic Society of Orange County. In January, he performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the National Symphony Orchestra with Music Director Gianandrea Noseda. On February 3, Cho released his new Deutsche Grammophon album The Handel Project: Handel Suites & Brahms Variations.
In December, Christian Reif conducted the premiere of his new arrangement of John Adams’ El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered in New York at St. John the Divine with soprano Julia Bullock, mezzo-soprano Rachael Wilson, bass-baritone Davóne Tines, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo and the American Modern Opera Company. Reif led the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on February 17 and 18 and leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on March 2, 4 and 5.
Joshua Bell just finished a successful 4-date recital tour with Peter Dugan to UMS Ann Arbor, Washington Performing Arts, Peace Center and Lyric Theatre. On February 25, he returns to the venerable stage of the Berlin Philharmonie to perform the Barber Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert. The performance will be streamed live on the Digital Concert Hall followed by recitals at Carnegie Hall and Chicago Symphony Center with Daniil Trifonov on February 28 and March 2. Bell and Larisa Martínez perform their “Voice and Violin” program with Colorado Symphony on April 14.
Randall Goosby recently finished a 6-city recital tour to Vancouver Recital Society, Stanford Live, Philharmonic Society of Orange County, La Jolla Music Society, Perlman Music Program/Suncoast and Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. He performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with Karina Canellakis in his Dallas Symphony Orchestra debut in January and made his New World Symphony debut on February 17 and 18. In March, he embarks on a 5-city recital tour to Newport Classical, Schubert Club, Performing Arts Houston, McCarter Theatre and Virginia Arts Festival.
Nicola Benedetti was recently featured in an in-depth interview in The New York Times discussing her new role and vision as Director of the Edinburgh International Festival. In January, she made her Boston Symphony Orchestra debut performing Szymanowski Violin Concerto No. 2 with Karina Canellakis. She embarks on a 5-city recital tour with trio members Leonard Elschenbroich and Alexei Grynyuk to Vilar Performing Arts Center, San Francisco Performances, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Tuesday Evening Concert Series and Royal Conservatory of Music.
Gemma New recently led performances with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony Orchestra. On February 5, she made a successful Salzburg debut at the invitation of Rolando Villazón conducting the final concert of the 2023 Mozartwoche Festival with the Mozarteumorchester. New led the Berner Symphonieorchester on February 16 and 17 and returns to London to lead the BBC Symphony on February 24.
Primo Artists welcomed new Artist Manager Yonca Karakilic in December. Karakilic comes to Primo with more than 15 years of experience in artistic planning, audience engagement and management in symphony, chamber music, festival and academic settings.
Karakilic said: “Since the time we met while I was at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, I have always had a deep appreciation of Charlotte’s expertise and care in fostering the careers of some of the greatest artists of our time. It is my distinct pleasure to join the Primo Artists team and use my expertise from the presenting perspective to help enable this roster of supreme talent.”
