October 2022 Artist Updates from Primo Artists

Gemma New, conductor: Gemma New conducted the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from September 29 to October 2 in a program featuring Saint-Saёn’s “Organ” Symphony. She leads London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on October 25 at Cadogan Hall after conducting the Royal Northern Sinfonia on October 21 and 22 in an all-20th century program.  New continues on to lead the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra on October 28 and 30, marking her eighth season as Music Director.

Valerie Coleman, flutist & composer: This month, Valerie Coleman’s Tracing Visions was premiered on the Sphinx Virtuosi tour, on which they will perform the work at Carnegie Hallin its New York premiere on October 13 at Carnegie Hall for Sphinx Organization's 25th Anniversary Gala. Her work, This Is Not a Small Voice, received great acclaim after performances by soprano Angel Blue and The Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the orchestra’s tour in Europe in August and September.

Nicola Benedetti, violin: Following her world premiere performances of James MacMillan’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Music Director Maxim Emelyanychev, Nicola Benedetti embarks on a 9-city U.S. tour with the SCO and Emelyanychev to Amherst, MA; Troy, Ithaca, and Brookville, NY; Lewisburg, PA; East Lansing, MI; Goshen, IN; Akron, OH; and Kansas City, MO. Benedetti ends the month in Japan with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor Dalia Stasevska.

Beatrice Rana, piano: Beatrice Rana returns to Carnegie Hall for a performance of Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestraon October 28 and performs in Philadelphia’s Verizon Hall on October 27, 29 and 30.

Randall Goosby, violin: From October 6 to 9, Randall Goosby performed Florence Price Violin Concerti Nos. 1 and 2 in his subscription debut with The Philadelphia Orchestraand Yannick Nézet-Séguin followed by an encore of Price’s Adoration in a string orchestra arrangement. He goes on to the U.K. to perform Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on November 5 following a performance of the concerto with the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra on October 30.

Aizuri Quartet: PR client, the Aizuri Quartet, launches an exciting 2022-23 season, including featured debuts at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall (Oct. 13), Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (Feb. 19, ‘23), and Texas Performing Arts (Mar. 4, ‘23) as recipients of the 2022 Cleveland Quartet Award. The quartet also appears this season at The Library of Congress; Boston’s Celebrity Series; the season opening concert of Brevard Music Center’s new Parker Concert Hall; the 2023 Big Ears Festival; Dallas Chamber Music Society; and continuing its role as a WQXR Artist Propulsion Lab Fellow.

Samantha Hankey: PR client Samantha Hankey makes her Scottish Opera debut on October 29–November 12 as Federico García Lorca in a new production of Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar.

Yolanda Kondonassis: PR client Yolanda Kondonassis presents the world premiere performance of FIVE MINUTES for Earth at The Cleveland Museum of Art on October 23. The concert features the world premieres of 17 new, Earth-inspired works for solo harp by Jocelyn C. Chambers, Chen Yi, Michael Daugherty, Daniel Dorff, Reena Esmail, Keith Fitch, Patrick Harlin, Stephen Hartke, Nathaniel Heyder, Takuma Itoh, Aaron Jay Kernis, Steven Mark Kohn, Philip Maneval, Máximo Diego Pujol, Arturo Sandoval, Gary Schocker, and Zhou Long. Every performance of these works generates a donation to Kondonassis's Earth-focused charities.

Jessica Meyer: PR client, composer and violist Jessica Meyer, has announced her fall 2022 season, including a northeast U.S. tour of her Press On (2022) by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, including a New York premiere at Carnegie Hall; the world premiere of A Passage between Earth and Sky (2022) at San Diego’s Maritime Museum; and the U.S. premiere of The dappled light just beyond her skin (2016). 

Karen Slack: PR client Karen Slack opens Edmonton Opera’s season in the lead, title role in Tosca on October 22, 25, and 28, 2022, the first staging in Joel Ivany’s new role as Artistic Director.

Dmitry Sitkovetsky: On October 1, PR client Dmitry Sitkovetsky conducted the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra’s season-opening concert of Price and Gershwin with pianist Michelle Cann, as well as Ravel and Debussy. This season marks Sitkovetsky’s 20th and final season as Music Director of the GSO.

Miriam K. Smith: PR client cellist Miriam K. Smith releases her second commercial recording, Momentum (Azica), on October 21. Recorded last year when she was only 15 years old, the album features works by Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Boulanger performed with Steinway Artist Sandra Wright Shen.

Sphinx Organization: PR client Sphinx Organization opens its 25th Anniversary season in October, launching at Carnegie Hall with a gala Songs For Our Times, featuring works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Carlos Simon, Jessie Montgomery, Xavier Foley, and Beethoven, as well as the New York premiere of Primo Artists' very own Valerie Coleman’s Tracing Visions.

TAK Ensemble: PR client TAK celebrated the release of its latest album – LOVE, CRYSTAL AND STONE – with Ashkan Behzadi, Saharnaz Samaeinejad, and Helena Grande in Brooklyn on October 3.
