Artis—Naples and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are immensely grateful to Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Seong-Jin Cho and David Robertson for stepping in for these performances at very short notice.
As part of the Artis—Naples 2021-22 season Visiting Orchestras series, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the first of two concerts of their 2022
Artis—Naples residency on March 1 with Metropolitan Opera and The Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting the orchestra in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s powerful Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Seong-Jin Cho. This magnificent work is paired with Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, written soon after the triumph of his second piano concerto.
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra concludes their 2022 residency with a program led by American conductor David Robertson making his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The program includes Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, which was written for a ballet based on the Shakespeare play and demonstrates his amazing musical creativity. The evening ends with Tchaikovsky’s emotional Symphony No. 6, the composer’s final work preceding his unexpected death a little over a week after its premiere.
As part of their Artis—Naples residency, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will present master classes offering members of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from some of the musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Artis— Naples will also host a panel discussion with Daniel Froschauer, violinist and chairman of the orchestra and Michael Bladerer, bassist and general manager, hosted by Artis—Naples CEO and President Kathleen van Bergen, discussing the unique structure and history of the orchestra.
