Seong-Jin Cho on WQXR's 20 For 20: Artists To Watch
WQXR has just announced Seong-Jin Cho in their prestigious line-up of their “20 For 20: Artists To Watch” program! They will feature Seong-Jin on air all season, along with 19 other artists.
“20 for 20” is a program based in NYC and hosted by America’s most popular classical-music station about embarking on a musical adventure with sensationally gifted artists. WQXR writes: “From Afghanistan to Iceland, via South Korea, Bulgaria, and our very own New York City, these are 20 singers, instrumentalists, ensembles, and conductors who are redefining what classical music can be, and doing so in diverse and thrilling ways. We can’t wait to see — and hear — what our ‘20 for 20’ get up to this year, and we’re looking forward to sharing it, every step of the way, with you.”
On Seong-Jin Cho, WQXR writes: “If there’s one thing you need to know about 25-year-old Seong-Jin Cho, it’s that he really, really likes Chopin. Which makes sense, considering he cleaned up at the 2015 Chopin International Piano Competition, launching his own international career. In 2016 he signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon, a partnership that has yielded a trio of recordings: Chopin’s Ballades and First Piano Concerto (2016), a Debussy recital (2017), and an album of Mozart Sonatas and the D Minor Concerto (2018).
The current season features a bevy of tour dates, including engagements at Paris’s Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and a number of debuts with U.S. orchestras including the New York Philharmonic with Jaap van Zweden, Los Angeles Philharmonic with Gustavo Dudamel and Boston Symphony Orchestra with Hannu Lintu.”
Last year, our pianist Beatrice Rana and violinist Nicola Benedetti were featured on WQXR’s “19 for 19” list of 19 season-long featured artists for 2019.
