After a miserable year in which arts organizations had to cancel performance seasons assembled through years of planning and scheduling, then find new platforms to connect with their audiences and deal with shifting schedules due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Society for the Performing Arts is offering a little light with the announcement of its 2021-22 season.

As it stands, the season will comprise 17 live in-person events, including appearances by all manner of renowned artists, experts and entities: Neil deGrasse Tyson, Jeff Goldblum, Fran Lebowitz, Black Violin, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Seong-Jin Cho, David Sedaris and Neil Gaiman, among others.

Meg Booth, CEO of Society for the Performing Arts, said she hopes the season helps Houston “get back to normal.”

“The performing arts do so much — they inspire and amaze, they give us a sense of belonging and remind us of our humanity,” Booth said. “The performing arts make us feel alive. We’re all craving that right now.”

The season will close May 22, 2022, with an appearance by beloved author Neil Gaiman.
