News from Primo Artists | Spring 2023

Randall Goosby is the cover feature of Gramophone Magazine’s May 2023 issue and has been announced as an Artist-in-Residence of London’s Southbank Centre’s 2023/24 season. Having just released a new Decca Classics album with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra featuring the Bruch and Florence Price violin concertos, he recently finished a 5-city recital tour with pianist Zhu Wang to Schubert Club, Performing Arts Houston, McCarter Theatre, Newport Classical and Virginia Arts Festival and made a successful LA Phil subscription debut with Dalia Stasevska.

Randall Goosby has recital availability with pianist Zhu Wang in the 2023/24 season in October 2023 and April 2024.

Seong-Jin Cho sold out his third recital at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium last month and made his Downtown Chicago recital debut presented by Symphony Center Presents last week. He also performed subscription concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Andris Nelsons and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Manfred Honeck.

Beatrice Rana returned to Carnegie Hall for the sixth time in four years in a recent recital at Carnegie’s Stern Auditorium as part of a recital tour that included Celebrity Series of Boston, Schubert Club and Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. From June 1 to 3, she makes her San Francisco Symphony debut under the baton of Manfred Honeck.

Christian Reif has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, effective the 2023/24 season. He recently led the Cincinnati Symphony in rousing performances of Shostakovich Symphony No. 5. This summer, he conducts programs at the Grand Teton Music Festival and Sewanee Music Festival, and leads his second season as Music Director at Minnesota’s Lakes Area Music Festival in seven programs.

Gemma New opened her second season as Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on March 31 and April 1 before conducting her farewell concerts as Principal Guest Conductor of the Dallas Symphony from April 20 to 22. She returns to St. Louis to lead the Opera Theatre of St. Louis’s production of Susannah from June 10 to 24. On August 1 and 2, Gemma makes her Lincoln Center debut conducting the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at David Geffen Hall. She makes her BBC Proms debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall on August 16.

James Gaffigan was back in New York in May, where he led three highly publicized sold-out concerts with the New York Philharmonic and pianist Yunchan Lim. The New York Times said, “Gaffigan — throughout the concert, drawing out playing that was controlled and urgent but also delicate and natural — emphasized the eerily seductive beauties of this grand, colorful, astringent score, with all its subdued sourness and shivery anxiety.” He continued his May appearances in New York leading a production of La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera from May 26 to June 9 and opens the Cleveland Orchestra's summer season on Beethoven 9 at the Blossom Festival.

Wynton Marsalis’s Trumpet Concerto received its World Premiere on April 27-29 in three sold-out concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra, Music Director Franz Welser-Möst and Principal Trumpet Michael Sachs. The concerts were highlighted in The New York Times. Marsalis’s Blues Symphony was performed last month by the San Francisco Symphony and Cristian Măcelaru, and his fanfare Herald, Holler and Hallelujah! will be performed by the Detroit Symphony under Music Director Jader Bignamini from June 8 to 10 and by the Pittsburgh Symphony and Music Director Manfred Honeck in the League of American Orchestras Conference concert on June 14.

Cristian Măcelaru recently returned to the States to conduct subscription concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony. He maintains a busy schedule as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France and Chief Conductor of the WDR Sinfonieorchester, and this summer he returns to lead the Cabrillo Festival as Music Director and Interlochen’s World Youth Symphony Orchestra as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.

We will be in Pittsburgh at the League of American Orchestras Conference June 14 to 16. Please contact Charlotte or Yonca to set up a time to meet!
