Seong-Jin Cho awarded 2023 Samsung Ho-Am Prize in the Arts

Pianist Seong-Jin Cho has been awarded the coveted Samsung Ho-Am Prize in the Arts in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the world of classical music. The Prize for The Arts encompasses literature, music, painting, design, dance and theater, and is awarded to people of Korean heritage who have contributed to the enrichment of culture and arts for humankind.

The Samsung Ho-Am Prize was established in 1990 by Lee Kun-Hee, the late Chairman of Samsung, with a vision to create a new corporate culture that continues the noble spirit of public service espoused by Lee Byung-chul, founder of Samsung. The Prize is presented each year to individuals who have contributed to academics, the arts and social development, or who have furthered the welfare of humanity through distinguished accomplishments in their respective professional fields.

The prize committee acknowledged Cho’s exceptional artistry, stating, “Pianist Seong-Jin Cho is a young, world-renowned performer who has brought a fresh and innovative spirit to classical music in both Korea and abroad. As a passionate and proven pianist, Seong-Jin Cho is a young master hailing from Korea, and his future prospects are highly anticipated.”

With an innate musicality and overwhelming talent, Seong-Jin Cho has established himself worldwide as one of the leading pianists of his generation and most distinctive artists on the current music scene. His thoughtful and poetic, assertive and tender, virtuosic and colorful playing can combine panache with purity and is driven by an impressive natural sense of balance. Winner of the 17th annual International Chopin Piano Competition and a highly sought‐after touring soloist, the 2023 Samsung Ho-Am Prize in the Arts is the latest award in a series of acclaim for Cho's exceptional performances and recordings.
